Protest rally: Stop construction of Tipaimukhs Dam

Sylhet Division Development Action Council (SDDAC) yesterday at a protest programme called upon the government to take all possible steps to stop construction of Tipaimukh dam.

They demanded the removal of Indian High Commissioner Pinak Ranjan Chakrabarti for his controversial speech on Tipaimukh dam issue against the interest of Bangladesh.

The demonstration was held in front of the National Press Club in the city in protest against the Indian decision of constructing dam on the Borak River, which flew into Bangladesh through Sylhet region. President of the Council Advocate Abed Raza presided over the programme while General Secretary of Islami Oikkya Jote Moulana Abdul Latif Nezami, President of Kulaura Foundation Advocate Abu Bakar Siddik, Mozammel Haque Polash, Advocate MA Khan, Shahin Ahmed Khan, Saiful Faruki, Jaheda Abed, Ziaur Rahman Hira, among others spoke at the programme.

Moulana Abdul Latif Nezami said that in any international river, one side could not interfere without the consent of other side. But India is going to violate it.

The speakers said that when the Indian government is constructing the Tipaimukh dam project, some ministers of the country are delivering controversial speech on the issue.

After the programme, the leaders and workers of the organisation submitted a memorandum to Prime Ministers office demanding steps on the issue and removal of Indian High Commissioner.
